So.... engine mounts, again.

I think I’ll spend part of my Saturday changing at least the passenger side engine mount on the Focus.

A new exhaust quieted the little blue shit box a bit, but it still vibrates and hums like crazy. I replaced all three mounts a few years ago, but nothing like throwing parts at a problem to see if it fixes it. I’ll check the drivers side trans mount as well, to see if it has shit the bed too. The lower mount? Well, it’s 35F tomorrow, so it’ll have to do for now.

Get OEM motor mounts. That’s one of the things that have to be OEM, since most aftermarket motor mounts suck.

For the exhaust, I’d rec ommend something that’s 304, so it doesn’t rust again. TruBendz is a good-priced system that includes a Borla muffler. They offer both stainless and regular steel, so you have to specify the stainless (I think it’s $75 extyra, money well spent). I know you said you already got one, but if it’s not stainless, you’ll need it again eventually. Non-stainless aftermarket exhaust is done after 2-3 years. Magnaflow uses 409, and most modern OEM exhaust systems are 409 now.

I wouldn't bother honestly, every first/second gen focus I've been in has had terrible vibrations, even my old 1993 escort vibrates enough to shake the hood at a stop light. The guy I bought it from had replaced the mounts with new oem but that made it even worse so he put the old ones back in and gave me the new ones in a box in case I wanted to reinstall them.

I think you missed the term “shit box”.  The $500 I spent on the exhaust is probably 1/2 of what the car is worth. I drive my cars into the ground, then use them to fertilize the garden. The idea of putting a Magnaflow exhaust on my car is, not to be rude or anything, hilarious.

I wasn’t saying to buy Magnaflow. I was saying to buy something that costs less than Magnaflow and made with better quality stainless steel that won’t rust :o)

My real suggestion was this TruBendz 304 exhaust. It costs much less than the 409 Magnaflow. You could also get an eBay exhaust for $100, but it might be too loud.

Agreed. That oem spec rubber always seems to be the right durometer vs aftermarket which can be hit or miss and doesn’t seem to last as long.

Make sure you use the more expensive OEM hydraulic engine mounts, not the cheaper solid rubber ones... especially if you live in a place where it gets cold.

On my last Focus, it had a suspension mount problem that the dealer fixed before I bought it.

Problem was they used the cheap-assed non-hydraulic mount. It was okay in warmer temperatures. But on cold days when starting up, it was noisy with lots of vibration.

He probably bought  cheap-assed solid rubber aftermarket mounts, not OEM hydraulic mounts.
